Fire on the Canary Island

As some of you may have noticed, there are very few News comming in abou the fire.  But how is the saying? “No News is Good News”

This of course does not mean that the danger is over.  There are still fires raging in the mountains, Santa Lucia and Fataga are still not declared safe.  It only means that there are no new Fires.  We are all hoping that the wind stays down so that the firefighters can get to grips with the fires at last.

A third of the forest of Gran Canaria has been destroyed by the fires, and no one knows how many Animals have lost their lives.

If there are any more News, i will of course keep you informed.

Here the latest Pictures:

On my German site you will find a video Joe has sent me.  This is what they saw last night from Play del Ingles.

10pm Update:

Well it seems quiet at the moment.  The danger is still not over for Fataga and Santa Lucia, but at least the Fires are no longer spreading.  With much hard work, and luck, we are hoping that the fires can be stopped soon and the island can get down to beeing  cleaned up and starting to repair what we can.

Some of the People who live in the mountains have lost their whole livelyhood.  The had very little to start with, but were proud of what they had built up for themselves over the years.  These people now are standing in front of the ruins.  They are the ones that are not insured.  Im hoping that the gouvernment will suport them as quickly as possible.

Unfortunatly there have bee a lot of Animal casualties due to Palmitos Park not beeing completely evacated.  Why this is so noone Knows.  A lot of the Wild running Dogs, Pets and Domestic Animals of the Mountain Villagers have fallen victims to the blaze too.

At the bottom of the Baranco near Palmitos Park, the Kamelownder were told to evict the area.  Unfortunatly the last news i have is that htey refused with the statement its all not so bad.  If the finaly left i do not know, and have found noone who can tell me.

If the ituation allowes it, them i will be driving into the mountians to see what i can do for the Animals that are there.  A lot will be scared, hungry and thirsty.  Ok a lot will now be saying i should be helping hte people, but I think there will be enough offers of help there.  The Animals will be forgotten.

I am now going to have a rest, as i have been posting and watching with very little sleep for the last 2 days and nights, and hope all stays calm.

Tomorrow i will update on what is happening.  If of course the situation should get worse again during the night, i will post.  Lets hope its not necessary.

2am Update:

Here the latest pictures, a very sad sight.
