Hmmmm lovely

Yesterday was one of those days i could have done well without.

The weather was unpredictable and was changing evry hour.  As i was feeling a little tired, i decided to take the dogs out one by one, instead of both together on one lead. (It usuasly works quite well with both, but the day before it was a struggle and i had blisters on my hands from the dog lead)

So first i took Chiara out for one hour, and after getting back and grabbing a drink, i went out with Gypsie.  Now Chiara walks well on the lead, but she has quite a tempo (must be the long legs).  Gypsie is the perfect dog when she can walk free, but she is a slow walker. So even though i was tired after the first round, it was relaxing to go out with her.  Off we set, and i could walk without any stress.  Half way round our walk i suddenly got cramp in the back of my right leg, and it took some time before i could carry on.

At the finca Osorio, we practised sit and stay, and she was just perfect.  It was a pleasure working with her. After a hour and two more leg cramps, we set off home, and i let her walk at her own pace.  Usually, she is walking in front of me, but for some reason she was hanging behind.  I looked back, and only saw her disapearing into the bushes.  I called her twice until she reacted and finaly came.  Off she ran in front of me.

As i followed her, i realised suddenly that there was a terrible smell comming from somewhere. I called Gypsie to me, and even before she got to me i could see the smear in her fur.  The nearer she got the worse the smell got.  I was heaving.  I knew that smell too well, she once again had found something dead in which she could have a jolly good roll.

She was happy, smiling all over her face, and her tail was waging like mad as if to say “dont i smell lovely”  Well dog guess what,  Im not turned on by slimy green rotting meat smells.  So with some distance between us, we headed home.  Once there, I tied her up in the back garden, got the hosepipe and dog shampoo, and gave her a good scrubbing.  She wasnt too happy about it, but after the second shampooing, i was able to stand her beeing around me again.

What do dogs find so exiting about these terrible smells that they think they have to bath in the stuff??  Maybe she will think twice before doing it again, since she hates bathing.
